Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City Trailer

By RodneyHatfieldJr for Movies

This trailer makes me all warm and nostalgic inside. This is what we fans were hoping for back when the first movie from 2002 was announced. Don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of the whole RE franchise, but this is a movie that holds true to the game I spent untold hours playing back in the day. And I am happy with what I am seeing. But enough of my fan-induced joy and let's get to the new trailer.

From director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night), Sony’s promises to bring the franchise back to its horror survival roots. RE: Welcome to Raccoon City is heading to theaters on November 24. The movie is going to kick off a new universe inspired by storylines and characters from Capcom’s classic Resident Evil games.

The official trailer has been unleashed, and indeed it sticks true to the promise that Welcome to Raccoon City is very much a survival horror movie, one that’s based on the first couple of video games in the franchise and loaded up with monsters and creatures.

Claire and Chris Redfield are the main characters, the film documenting their attempts to take down the sinister Umbrella Corporation. Familiar locations, monsters, and moments from those original games are all over this trailer, presenting a movie that’s sticking much, much closer to the source material than the previous film adaptations did.

For those who don’t know the Resident Evil story, here is a short synopsis for the new movie.

Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever…changed…and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.

The cast includes Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield alongside Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin, and Donal Logue (Silent Night, “Gotham”) is playing Chief Irons in the “origin story adaptation” of the games that’s set in Raccoon City in 1998.

Here is the official trailer.
