Dead Day Comic Books Getting a TV Series

By RodneyHatfieldJr for Movies

I’m excited that the Dead Day comics from AfterShock are heading to the small screen. I had been given the trade as a gift last year and was surprised at the quality of the story. A really well-written alternative take on the zombie story.

Dead Day is based on the bestselling AfterShock comic-book series created by Ryan Parrott, and is being produced by Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Legacies) and Kevin Williamson (Scream, The Vampire Diaries, Dawson’s Creek, The Following), who will serve as co-showrunners, writers and executive producers.

Dead Day follows the Haskins, a seemingly normal suburban family, as they prepare for the annual macabre holiday known as Dead Day. When the deceased rise from the grave from sunset to sunrise. Some come back to reunite with family and friends, others for one last night of debauchery, still others with only one thing on their decomposing minds: revenge.

Dead Day combines an exciting, high-concept premise with relatable characters and real emotion.

“We have been looking for a project to do together and Dead Day has all the ingredients we love as storytellers. Love, death, thrills and tears — and we know Susan Rovner and her team at Peacock is the perfect fit for this project,” said Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson.

There is no date for this yet. I rarely recommend comics, but if you want to read the graphic novel, Amazon has it for 11.20.
