Best Horror Films From The 1910 To The 1919
The second decade of the twentith century was an important era for films. These were the years where film went from a few minutes to full length features. This is also the decade of a new kind of celebrity; the movie star. Unfortunately many films from this era are lost to history, only still’s and photo’s are the only things that remain. So lets go through some of these great films from this wonderful time of cinema.
Frankenstein 1910

Frankenstein, a young medical student, is trying to create the perfect human being, instead creates a misshapen monster.
This is made by Edison studio, and is the very first film version of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. I would recommend watching this on the big screen if given the chance.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 1912

Dr. Henry Jekyll experiments with scientific means of revealing the hidden, dark side of man and releases a murderer from within himself.
This is the earliest version of the story that isn’t lost. It also is the only film version where Mr. Hyde is smaller than Dr. Jekyll as portrayed in the book. And the most important thing, Dr. Jekyll is pronounced Dr. Jeekl.
The Golem 1915

A clay statue brought to life by Rabbi Loew in 16th century Prague to save the Jews from the ongoing brutal persecution by the city’s rulers.
When you consider what the Jews are beginning to face and in the coming years, this takes on a eerie truth.

Decarli a European aristocrat in Java. He takes a fancy to a weird-looking statue of a local pagan god, which is protected by a priest. Decarli decides to steal the statue.
Directed by Robert Wiene, which is worth giving it a watch.
Die Pest in Florenz 1919

An evil seductress causes the city to fall into dens of sexual debauchery. That is until death shows up and gives her a deadly plague.
The screenplay was based on the Edgar Allan Poe story The Masque of the Red Death, but he heightened the story’s sexual tension by making the plague appear in the form of a beautiful seductress.
Eerie Tales 1919

A demon, a reaper, and a supernatural prostitute read gothic short stories and act them out. The film is split into five stories: The Apparition, The Hand, The Black Cat (Edgar Allan Poe), The Suicide Club (Robert Louis Stevenson) and Der Spuk (The Spectre).
This is a favorite since it is the first anthology movie ever. There are 5 short stories told. I really want to see this on the big screen.
