UK Museum Macabre Challenge For Curators

I love museums. Not only do they show us history, but they show both the beauty and the terrors we as a species have inflicted and suffered. Museums are the only places that will show you a famous masterpiece that is beyond words, then show you a torture device that killed an untold number of people in some of the most grisly ways imaginable. So not being able to get out and visit museums and art galleries due to the lockdown is getting to some people, including the ones that work inside of the institutions. One curator at the Yorkshire Museum in England had the petrifying idea to challenge other museums to find and share their creepiest pieces, and the results do not disappoint.

As part of their ongoing #Curatorbattle challenge, Yorkshire Museum tweeted out different things from their prospective museums. “Can you beat it?” they exclaimed and museum workers of the world answered. One museum will post something, and then another will post another picture. Before long the hashtag had entries from around the world.

Yorkshire Museum which has reportedly suffered a decline of as much as 70% in revenue due to the stay at home order. The idea of this challange is to involve and inform people from around the world in the comfort of their own homes.
