Monster Gets a Prequel

When we talk about serial killers, Aileen Wuornos is always high on that list. Her story is the classic clinical horror story of a serial killer. Her whole life is one nightmare going into another. And in 2004, Charlize Theron won an Oscar for playing Aileen Wuornos AKA the Florida Highway Killer, America’s most notorious female serial killer. Monster is one of the few horror-related movies that have won an Oscar. Now Peyton List is taking over the role. Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman, the film will release on September 20 with a VOD release to follow on October 8, 2021.

If you are unfamiliar with Wuornos let me relay some back story. Aileen Carol Wuornos was an American serial killer/prostitute who murdered seven men in Florida in 1989 and 1990. Wuornos claimed that her victims had either raped or attempted to rape her while they were soliciting sex from her and that all of the homicides were committed in self-defense. She was sentenced to death for six of the murders and was executed by lethal injection on October 9, 2002.

This tale is based on Aileen Wuornos’s early life in the 70s. The film follows the female serial killer in Florida when she marries an older wealthy Yacht Club president only to inflict mayhem within her new family and Florida’s high society.
