A Man, His Monkey and the End of the World. Y: The Last Man

Before anyone says anything, yes I know it is a comic. And I rarely ever have news about comics, unless it is a really good horror/thriller story. Because I am not a big comic fan, I should say I am not a big fan of the kind of comic films we are getting today. But this one is one of my favorites Vertigo comics.

Now for the ones who have no idea who Y aka Yorick Brown and Ampersand the Capuchin monkey is and what his story is. First think of The Stand, Mad Max, and I am Legend rolled into one. Then add in the fact the surviving population of the world are females. And they are looking for Yorick, because he is apparently the only man who didn’t die from the plague. Tell me that isn’t horror.

Now for the announcement. FX has been developing a series adaptation of the Y: The Last Man and the series is finally headed to the FX on Hulu this year. Y will premiere on Monday, September 13, exclusively on FX on Hulu. The season features ten episodes in total, and the first two premiere on 9/13, which makes sense because there is a truckload of backstory to go over.

This is based on the DC Comics series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, and published by Vertigo between 2002 and 2008. Y: The Last Man traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male mammal save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class, and survival.

Eliza Clark (Animal Kingdom) serves as the showrunner of the series, which has a cast including Olivia Thirlby, Diane Lane, Ben Schnetzer, Amber Tamblyn, and Ashley Romans.

This sounds like a fantasy of being the only man left alive in a world of women. And I agree it does sound awesome for about 10 seconds and then my old married reality shows up and then I realize a billion women and you are the only one to blame. No thank you.
